Best Overall: Twin Farms

Twin Farms
TripAdvisor

With ecstatic reviews ranging from “The five-star rating doesn’t do this resort justice” to “The level of service will spoil you for every other lodging experience,” it’s safe to say that Twin Farms in Barnard, Vermont is everyone’s favorite East Coast hotel. Situated on three hundred sprawling acres of lush greenery, colorful wildflowers, and miles of hiking trails, it doesn’t get more picturesque than this five-star boutique resort.

You can pretty much do whatever you want here: be it fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, or simply languishing in the lap of rural luxury. The historic home of author Sinclair Lewis and his journalist wife Dorothy Thompson, Twin Farms also boasts a stellar restaurant, state-of-the-art spa, ice skating rink, tennis courts, and several other elegant on-site amenities. Rooms are expertly decorated with original artwork and curated antiques, and most showcase expansive views of looming Mt. Ascutney.
