The Best Disney Spas

There are many Disney hotels, but only a handful — and the most deluxe — have spas. The most lavish is Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa near Honolulu that is so family-friendly there's a family treatment room and "magical makeovers" for three-year-olds in the salon. Here are a look at a few of the most notable Disney spas that you can enjoy.

    Aulani

Set on 21 beautiful oceanfront acres in Ko Olina on the leeward coast of Oahu, guests enjoy a world-class spa, restaurants, pools, kids’ club, and more — all uniquely designed for families to discover the culture, history and traditions of Hawaii. Just 17 miles from Honolulu International Airport, Aulani Resort features 351 rooms, including 16 suites, and 481 two-bedroom equivalent villas, including 20 grand villas.

Laniwai, a Disney Spa, is the most lavish and serious of Disney's spas. The Hawaiian word laniwai (pronounced lah-nee-vai) means “freshwater heaven,” and the spa lives up to its name with more than 150 treatments, a rainwater suite, and the Kula Wai outdoor hydrotherapy garden, the only of its kind on Oahu.

The 5,000-square-foot garden retreat offers pampering amenities, including private vitality pools, co-ed mineral baths, a reflexology path, six rain-style showers, whirlpool jet spas and a lounge area with a menu of healthy foods and beverages.

Signature therapies include Lomilomi, the traditional Hawaiian massage that uses gentle, rhythmic pressure to relieve tension and promote healing. Another signature treatment, Kilikilim  pairs exfoliation and massage with coconut oil under streaming jets of warm waters. This treatment takes place in Lilinoe, its private rainwater suite.

Most importantly, Disney made the spa family-friendly. One of the 15 treatment rooms is designed for families, with  a special massage experience called "Ohana Means Family" for up to six family members (ages 5 and up) and a full-service salon (with magical makeovers for kids ages 3 and up)

Painted Sky is a 1,500-square-foot retreat just for teens — Hawaii's only teen spa — featuring a mixology station and a special menu of treatments. Exclusive to teens ages 13 to 17, Painted Sky is the only teen spa in Hawaii where teens can relax and make new friends. Painted Sky amenities include an acai and yogurt bowl bar, relaxation area, computer station and D.I.Y. Iliahi mixology bar to blend personalized Hawaiian body polishes, perfume and face masques.

The 2,000-square-foot Fitness Center is open 24 hours for resort guests and features cardiovascular and strength training equipment, a Kinesis machine, free weights and a stretching area. Fitness classes include yoga, spinning, beach workouts, aquatic exercise, meditation and tai chi.

Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

    Jeff Kays

Just as Saratoga Springs resort is inspired by the historic horse racing town in upstate New York, so is its Senses spa inspired by the healing properties of natural springs that have drawn people for centuries to Saratoga Springs in upstate New York.

The two-story, full-service Disney-owned and operated spa offers an  array of therapeutic services including water therapy, massage and facials.

Senses Spa incorporates the springs and nature in its design, which features natural stone, pebbles and rich woodwork. Walt Disney Imagineers incorporated nature throughout the design using a hummingbird motif showcased in wood carvings and furnishings; alongside authentic Native American artwork.

The spa 10 treatment rooms offering an array of therapeutic services including water therapy, massage and facials. An intimate couple’s room is ideal for honeymooners, or for those who want to relax and spa together.

Guests are greeted with the soothing sounds of a trickling fountain, branch-like fixtures and soft amber lighting setting the mood for this new oasis for rejuvenation and relaxation. Wood floors, stone details and wood-beamed ceilings bring a warm, organic feel to the newly imagined spa and fitness center.

Each treatment is guided by one of the spa’s core themes – relax, renew or imagine. All the senses are engaged in an ultimate relaxation experience, plus flavorful and soothing elixirs harmonize with the treatment selected.

A glass mosaic tile mural featuring hummingbirds in a nature setting takes center stage in the whirlpool room. There’s also heated loungers and a steam room providing relaxation and renewal.  A glass doorway leads guests to three manicure and four pedicure stations, a great way to recharge after a day in the theme parks.

Signature treatments include a signature bamboo-fusion massage that incorporates hot stones, and revitalizing blueberry facial. This unique facial experience incorporates a double mask, hydrating lip treatment, acupressure and facial massage.  Antioxidant and tannin-rich blueberries purify and tighten pores for a luminous, revitalizing youthful glow.

    Grand Californian

On to California, where it all began. Renowned as “The Happiest Place on Earth,” Disneyland is Walt Disney’s original theme park and the centerpiece of the Disneyland Resort. Over six decades, the original 18 attractions that comprised Disneyland Park have grown into the Disneyland Resort – a sprawling 500-acre resort destination featuring two theme parks, three beautiful hotels and the Downtown Disney District, packed with the entertainment, dining and retail.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is styled after the Arts & Crafts movement from the early 1900s, boasting more than 1000 rooms, including 44 guest suites and 50 two-bedroom vacation villas. In 2017 the craftsman-themed hotel updated all its rooms spaces to include oak furnishings, new bathrooms and 55-inch smart TVs. The public spaces were also done, with fun touches like Chip and Dale tastefully woven in to the carpet.

Mandara Spa seems small in every way for such a big hotel. It has just eight treatment rooms, a couples suite and two nail bars. Since Mandara Spa got its start in Bali, you may want to try the Balinese massage, which combines stretching, long strokes, and palm and thumb pressure techniques to relieve tension, improve blood flow and ease stress. There are also lots of skin care therapies, including Elemis anti-aging facials and LED light therapy.

Perhaps guests are most focused on the other advantages of staying here, including an exclusive entrance to Disney California Adventure, which give hotel guests streamlined access. The Extra Magic Hour gives guests early entry to select Disneyland and Disney California Adventure attractions.

The most relaxing Disney vacation you will ever have is aboard the cruise ship Disney Dream. Why? You can hole up in your cabin and read — or go to the spa — while your kids race around the ship, collecting autographs from Disney characters, or have a blast at the Oceaneers Club.
