There’s a lot to love about Delsey Luggage. Since 1946, the French company has made durable and practical suitcases for people to use on weekend road trips and long-haul journeys alike. As longtime luggage aficionados, it’s safe to say Delsey knows how to do it all when it comes to meeting our baggage expectations.

With more than 50 patents and awards, the brand goes the extra mile to use high-quality material, innovate their designs, and deliver it all at prices that won’t break the bank. Personally, we also love the interiors of Delsey’s luggage, which always feature smart layouts to help you stay organized (and so you can avoid "shoot, where is my USB charger?" moments when you check into your hotel room). Their offerings are available in a host of fashionable colors and basic and neutral shades, too. Below, find the perfect Delsey suitcase, backpack, tote, or other piece of luggage for your needs.

Best Overall: DELSEY Paris Helium Aero Hardside Expandable Luggage

What We Like
  • Built to last

  • Various pockets

  • Maximizes packing space

What We Don't Like
  • Some complain of zipper issues

  • Locks are upside down

The Delsey Helium Aero Hardside Luggage is made from 100 percent polycarbonate, making it ultra-lightweight and exceptionally resilient against cracks and fractures. It also looks great, with a high-gloss finish in a range of colors, including brushed charcoal, cobalt blue, and emerald green. At 29 inches, it offers the maximum packing space allowed by most airlines. Despite its large size, it exerts zero pressure on your arm and shoulder thanks to four multi-directional double spinner wheels.

The wheels are paired with an industrial-grade aluminum handle, which features an ergonomic grip and two different height settings. The bag opens like a book into two separate compartments. A selection of pockets, tie-down straps, and a zippered divider help to keep your belongings organized, while extra souvenirs are accommodated by the case’s two-inch expansion feature. Best of all, you can rest easy knowing that your packing is kept safe by the integrated, three-digit TSA lock. The suitcase also comes with a 10-year warranty. If you prefer a smaller option, the Delsey Aero is available in different sizes, including a 19-inch carry-on version.

Size: 29 x 19.5 x 12.5 inches | Weight: 12.5 pounds | Material: Polycarbonate | Expandable: Yes

Tested by TripSavvy

For our review, we packed two pairs of shoes, two pairs of pants, two dresses, four shirts, a sweater, underwear, and a small dopp kit into the AERO. The compression straps and zippered compartments in each side of the interior helped keep everything secure, but we needed every bit of the expanding space to fit it all in.

The front compartment is our favorite feature on the AERO; it consists of two mesh pockets and a well-padded laptop pocket that fits up to a 15.6” computer. This compartment will probably be the most useful to a business traveler or a traveling parent who needs a tablet or hand wipes close at hand during a trip.

The computer pocket padding may be a bit overkill, but it’s reassuring nonetheless. We’d prefer if this pocket had been attached to the interior side of the front compartment instead, as we fear a heavy laptop could tip the whole thing over.

Something else to consider before you buy is that a solid-color mirror finish like the AERO’s is bound to get scuffed after a while. We accidentally drop-kicked ours on an uneven sidewalk and got a little one. It’s not very conspicuous, especially in the dark blue colorway we chose, but it’s something to keep in mind.  —Joy Merrifield, Product Tester

Tested by TripSavvy

We tested this bag in our lab, and it scored extremely well in the organization category. The best packing feature is the removable tri-fold organizer for toiletries, jewelry, or other small items. You'll also find two interior pockets and two exterior pockets. This suitcase even has a built-in overweight indicator that shines red when the bag weighs more than 48.5 pounds. We tested that a few times with the bag weighing more than that limit, and it worked; (though it’s such a subtle red that it was difficult to determine whether it was triggered). And like all Delsey offerings, this one maneuvers extremely well and glides smoothly. —Jamie Hergenrader, Editorial Director of Travel and Finance

What to Look for in Delsey Luggage

Carry-on vs. Checked

One bag does not fit all trips, and with so many airline fees today, you’ll want to figure out how you travel most frequently. Do you pack light and take a carry-on only, or do you consistently check a bag? Delsey has great options for both, but make an investment based on how you travel most.

Once you narrow down practicalities, you can take a look at style. Delsey’s options range from ultra-modern, minimal looks to vintage-style designs in browns and faux-leather. It can be hard to decide with options this fun, but with Delsey, if you don’t want a standard black bag, you definitely don’t have to settle for one.

Softshell vs. Hardshell

Delsey offers a number of varieties of both softshell and hardshell luggage, with the former generally a bit cheaper and easier to fit into small spaces like car trunks. However, hardhell bags offer peace of mind when it comes to protecting items inside the bag, and many prefer the style.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I change my Delsey luggage's lock code?

To change the lock code, open the cover and press down on the reset button with the tip of a ballpoint pen or something of a similar size. Enter your new code. Then press the button on the right and the reset button will go back to its original position once done.

  • How can I register my luggage for Delsey's warranty?

To register your bag for Desley’s product warranty, take a picture of your receipt and the hangtag attached to the bag’s exterior. Upload those pictures to where you will be prompted to answer a couple of questions about your purchase.

  • How should Delsey luggage be cleaned?

To clean the hardshell luggage, warm water and soap used with a soft cloth or sponge will do the trick. To avoid any marks, rinse off your suitcase thoroughly before letting it dry. For softshell luggage, use a gentle soap diluted with water and a soft sponge to get out any marks. After rinsing off, it is recommended to use a hairdryer on a low setting to speed up the drying process.
