There's nothing like a day at the spa to make your vacation perfect. The mere idea of total self-indulgence, of doing something that's only for you after working so hard to earn these days of respite, is renewing to the spirit. We all deserve and need a special day or even a couple of hours for a massage, a facial, or a manicure and pedicure in peaceful surroundings. When you're in New Orleans, here are some great choices for the relaxation you need.
The Spa in the Roosevelt Hotel is a rare chance to experience a truly unique day of luxury. This spa is one of only three in the country and is a not to be missed experience. The prestigious name carries with it 180 years of beauty and relaxation. Fancy a 4-Hand Imperiale massage, a body polish, or a package to cure your jet lag? Who doesn't!
The spa at the New Orleans Ritz-Carlton lives up to the Ritz name. At this 25,000 square foot pleasure palace, you can get a Voodoo Love Massage, an Essence of Magnolia Massage, or any of the Ritz's signature treatments. This award winning spa is beautiful and elegant, with gentle fountains and softly draped lighting--a destination unto itself.
Belledonna is a local's favorite on Magazine Street. "Be" is the essence of the philosophy of Belledonna. The spa offers balance, restorative treatments, and nourishing the entire person--body, mind, and spirit. Taking the time to just be--restores our mental, physical and spiritual health and allows each of us to meet the demands of each day and give our fullest at whatever else we choose to do. Besides a great day spa, Belledonna offers some retail therapy with cosmetics and other luxury items available.
The thing I like best about Spa Isbel is its ambiance. The spa is located in a 150+ year-old building, which makes a wonderful mix of historic charm and complete luxury. In addition to the full-service spa including the European-style facials, Spa Isbel has a hair salon. And, it's easy to get to from the French Quarter or Warehouse District.
Serenity Spa is located on the first floor of the J.W. Marriot hotel at 614 Canal Street, where Chartres Street meets Canal. So, it's at the edge of the French Quarter and easy to get to. Serenity Spa offers a full menu of services, including facials, massages, nail services, waxing and makeup applications.
The Bamboo Apothecary is located at 4112 Magazine Street. It is a sleek, modern and trendy full-service spa and it also has a retail in front that sells makeup, creams, and other products. The bamboo floors and open, light-filled front area is a great place for a nail treatment. The back of the spa has more subdued lighting and is most relaxing.
Earthsavers is a local chain and the one in New Orleans is located Uptown at 5501 Magazine Street. Earthsavers is a full-service spa with a retail shop in front. It's in a small building, so reservations are hard to come by.
Spa Atlantis is conveniently located in the New Orleans Central Business District at 740 Gravier Street. Spa Atlantis offers a full line of massage, body, facial, waxing, nail and hair treatments. And, of course, there's a retail store with products to take home for more enjoyment.
