Whether it be for Valentine’s Day or just a good old-fashioned date night, we're firm believers that instead of the traditional dinner for two, you should try one of these fun alternative ideas.

For the Adventurers

Go ice-skating! You and yours can glide across the ice and then warm up with some hot cocoa afterwards. Montclair has the Clary Anderson Arena, or try the Richard J. Cody Arena at South Mountain in West Orange.

How about one of the best trust activities ever for your relationship? Rock climbing. On belay? Belay on! The Gravity Vault in Chatham or Diamond Gymnastics in East Hanover are both great options, while New Jersey Rock Gym in Fairfield has some great specials including college night, ladies night, and high school night!

For thrill-seekers looking to for a less physically demanding activity, an Adventure Room in Montclair might be just the thing! Drawing only from one’s knowledge, experience, street smarts and fellow teammate/s, the object is for participants to solve riddles in order to escape from a room within a given time limit.

For the Art Lovers

A museum could be the perfect place to get lost for the afternoon. Luckily, New Jersey is filled to the brim with culture. Try the state’s largest museum, the Newark Museum that hosts collections of American, decorative, contemporary, Asian, African and ancient world art.

Other options include the Morris Museum or the Montclair Art Museum. If none of those tickle your fancy, West Orange is home to Thomas Edison’s home and laboratory.

If you get tired of just looking at art from afar and would like to create it instead, Montclair is where it’s at. Try Doin’ Dishes where you can paint your own piece of pottery.

At Pinot’s Palette, share a bottle of wine while following prompts to create your very own masterpiece!

For those Who Love the Classics

Bowling can be fun… in your SPARE time! AMF Wallington Lanes in Paterson, Garden Palace in Clifton, or Eagle Rock Lanes in West Orange are your best bets.

While you may think that the winter weather is too cold for mini golfing, there’s always Monster Mini Golf. This spot is not only indoors, but there are various locations across New Jersey.

For those Boogie Nights

Do you love live music? It’s surely a great way to cha cha right into someone’s arms! Hat City Kitchen in West Orange offers rock, blues, funk, R&B, soul and zydeco music as well as food. Just Jakes in Montclair hosts live music every Friday and Saturday night, but if jazz is your thing, another Montclair spot, Trumpets, is the place to be. Just a couple of towns over, in Little Falls, The Fine Grind offers live music twice a week with open mics every Sunday evening.

If you’re feeling more of a daytime vibe, Trend Coffee and Tea House offers unique events such as belly dancing and open mics in addition to live musical performances.

And if none of this feels quite romantic enough, there's always White Castle.
