Travelers flying to Chicago will likely land in Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the bustling hub located about a 25-minute drive from downtown Chicago. However, Chicago Midway International also services the city and is about the same distance away as O’Hare. There are a number of excellent airport hotels in Chicago at reasonable prices, so visitors staying in Chicago for more than a one-night layover may want to consider an airport hotel as cost-saving alternative to staying in downtown. Whether you have flight delays or prefer to stay outside of the city, here are the eight best airport hotels near Chicago. And don't worry, they all offer free shuttles when it's time for wheels up.
Best Overall: SpringHill Suites Chicago O'Hare
Outstanding service, a great location near the airport and a reasonable nightly rates make the Spring Hill Suites a top choice for any traveler stopping over in Chicago. Hop on the free airport shuttle and unwind in the indoor pool after a day of traveling. All rooms are suites, so they’re larger than traditional rooms and have free Wi-Fi. A hot breakfast is included in the room rate, but an Outback Steakhouse is attached to the hotel if you want to grab a bite to eat for lunch or dinner. Parking is free and there is a fitness center on the property if you're looking to squeeze in some exercise. TripAdvisor members frequently acknowledge the outstanding staff.
Best Budget: Holiday Inn & Suites Chicago O'Hare Rosemont
The 300-room Holiday Inn and Suites Chicago O’Hare Rosemont was renovated in 2016 and offers an affordable and comfortable stay near the airport for travelers on a budget. TripAdvisor members rave about the excellent food and service at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse, which is attached to the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar is also a popular place to catch the Cub’s game, so expect a decent crowd in the evenings. There’s also a business center, and fairly large fitness center on the property. A free shuttle is available to the airport however, and parking is not included.
Best for Families: Hilton Garden Inn Chicago O'Hare Airport - Des Plaines
For families traveling with little ones, the Hilton Garden makes a welcoming base with added amenities that you don’t find at every airport hotel. Families can take a dip in the indoor swimming pool or whirlpool, and for kids, there’s even a splash pad with a “mushroom” waterfall. When booking the family package, rooms include a fantastic breakfast, but the restaurant also serves American fare for lunch and dinner (children’s menus and high chairs are available). Standard Rooms have free Wi-Fi and Keurig coffee makers, microwaves (there’s even an on-site convenience mart if you’d like to heat up snacks for the kids in the room). The free airport shuttle also makes a run to the train station.
Best Park and Fly: Hampton Inn Chicago-O'Hare - Schiller Park
If you’re taking your own car to the airport, the 148-room Hampton Inn has a solid “park, stay and go” package that allows you to park your vehicle at the hotel for up to seven nights for a fraction of what you’d pay at the airport directly. The hotel has a reliable free airport shuttle and hot breakfast buffet included in the rate. Guests can relax in the heated, saltwater indoor swimming pool and hot tub or pump some iron in the fitness center. The one drawback? There’s no restaurant on the property (and not many dining options nearby).
Best Boutique: Aloft Chicago O’Hare Rosemont
It’s not every day that you find a boutique airport hotel, and the Aloft Chicago O’Hare may be a welcome change for travelers seeking a more unique accommodation. After a long flight, relax by the pool in one of their pod lounges (complete with a fire pit in the evenings), or grab a drink at the bar and catch some live, local music. Rooms have trendy mood lighting and designer furnishings. A free 24-hour airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes until the wee hours of the night (at which time you’ll just call for pick up). TripAdvisor members loved that the hotel is connected to MB Financial Park, so they can easily catch a movie in the theater, go bowling or check out the comedy club.
Best Midway Airport: Hyatt Place Chicago Midway Airport
Although O’Hare is the main airport, Chicago’s Midway Airport also caters to commercial airlines, so if you’re flying in there, the Hyatt Place Chicago Midway is a snazzy new hotel that’s doing everything right. Located just two blocks from the airport, the Hyatt offers doubled-paned windows to ensure a quiet night’s rest. For a bite to eat, there’s a 24/7 dining menu available, as well as quick grab-and-go items. An excellent breakfast is included in the rate, and there’s a fast and easy shuttle to the airport. Rooms also have sofa sleepers, free Wi-Fi and mini refrigerators. For recreation, take a swim in the pool, practice your stroke on the putting green, do some cardio at the gym or relax by the outdoor fire pit.
Best for Fitness and Health: The Westin O’Hare
If staying active and healthy when you travel is a priority, then the Westin O’Hare is the way to go, with a focus on wellness and health. The hotel features the “RunWestin” program, which offers running maps, guided group runs and even has a workout gear-lending option. The gym itself is state-of-the art, with docking stations on machines and an indoor pool for working on that backstroke. Accommodations are larger and more upscale than typical airport hotel rooms, with a minimum 420 square feet of space and the company’s signature bedding. A gastropub restaurant is on the property for three meals a day. The hotel has a free airport shuttle and the Blue Line station to Chicago is within walking distance.
Best for Business: Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel
If you’re visiting Chicago for work, Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel is a popular choice for business travelers. The hotel has a 24-hour business center and 53,000 square feet of meeting space, including a grand ballroom for conferences and 19 additional meeting rooms with the latest technology, projectors and Wi-Fi. There are also three dining options on the property (a seafood restaurant, gastropub and steakhouse).
