Best Overall: Cambria Pines Lodge
Cambria Pines Lodge is ranked first on TripAdvisor for its serene atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent location within walking distance of Cambria’s historic East Village. It is set within 25 acres of magnificent landscaped gardens and boasts its own heated outdoor pool and hot tub. When you’re not exploring the surrounding area, unwind with a massage at the Sojourn Healing Arts Center or sit down to regional cuisine made with fresh produce from the hotel’s own kitchen garden at Cambria Pines Lodge Restaurant.
Fireside Lounge is known for its nightly live performances by local musicians; and its impressive selection of Central California Coast wines and microbrews. There are 152 rooms and suites to choose from, all of them furnished in antique style but with modern comforts including an LCD TV, a single-serve coffeemaker and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have memory foam beds, spa tubs, and fireplaces while suites come with fridges and microwaves. Road-trippers will appreciate that parking and electric charge-points are provided free of charge.
Runner-Up, Best Overall: Oceanpoint Ranch
Situated amidst nine seaside acres in between Leffingwell Landing State Park and Moonstone Beach, Oceanpoint Ranch is as convenient for exploring San Simeon as it is for exploring Cambria’s West and East Villages. Ranch-style chic is the order of the day at this popular hotel, with plaids and animal prints complemented by leather furniture and vaulted wood ceilings. All rooms and suites spoil with a 50” HD TV, a Keurig coffeemaker and C.O. Bigelow bathroom amenities. Some have private patios and wood-burning fireplaces.
Visit welcoming restaurant The Canteen for a la carte breakfasts and homestyle dinners, or to pick up picnic staples before heading out for a day of adventures. There are plenty of reasons to hang out at the hotel, too, including a year-round heated swimming pool and beautiful grounds with lawns for bocce, cornhole, horseshoes, and croquet. There’s even a private beach trail leading to the shore at Leffingwell Landing. Finally, the hotel offers indoor and outdoor event spaces and complimentary on-site parking.
Best Boutique: Cambria Beach Lodge
For a more boutique experience, look no further than Cambria Beach Lodge. Situated close to West Village and directly on fabled Moonstone Beach, the hotel has just 27 rooms – giving it a wonderfully intimate feel. The decor is inspired by its beachside setting, with sun-bleached wooden floors, cozy fabrics, and accents of turquoise, blue and yellow. All rooms are adorned with bespoke artwork and offer woolen Faribault blankets, a curated gourmet mini-bar, oversized feature showers, and luxury toiletries. Some also have a fireplace.
Start your day with a complimentary breakfast spread including whole fruits, hard-boiled eggs, and sweetbreads washed down with local artisan coffee. Feel like exploring? Hop on one of the hotel’s bright yellow Linus bikes and make sure to pack your in-room Adventure Kit. This includes everything from binoculars to sunscreen and surf wax. Basic self-catering amenities including a fridge, microwave and coffeemaker come in handy for preparing children’s snacks, while the Suites are perfect for families with one King bed and two Queen sofa beds. Although there’s no restaurant on-site, there are plenty of family-friendly options located a five-minute drive away in West Village.

Coastal decor reigns within, from the driftwood-inspired headboards in the guest rooms to the pebble-gray, shell-white and sand-yellow color scheme. Best Dog-Friendly: Cambria Shores Inn
Also located on Moonstone Beach, Cambria Shores Inn prides itself on its dog-friendly reputation (which is backed up by hundreds of positive reviews on TripAdvisor). Out of 25 rooms, 22 are set aside for guests with dogs and include a protective blanket in case your four-legged friend wants to sleep on the bed. All dogs are greeted with a basket of treats and essential supplies – including food and water bowls, a sleeping mat and a flashlight for late-night bathroom runs.
In the lobby, you’ll find a constant supply of dog treats and the garden has a dedicated area for furry guests to play in. Leashed dogs are also allowed on the Moonstone Beach boardwalk while Cambria’s Dog Park is an eight-minute drive away. All rooms provide faultless comfort for human guests, too, with a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and flat-screen TV. The bathrooms are equipped with a rain shower and/or soaking tub and every morning, a freshly prepared breakfast basket is delivered directly to your door.
Best B&B: Olallieberry Inn
Part of Cambria’s charming East Village, Ollalieberry Inn was built in 1865 and is one of the town’s oldest buildings. It enjoys a serene setting on the edge of the Santa Rosa Creek, with a 130-year-old redwood at the entrance and beautiful gardens out back. All nine rooms and suites are historically authentic and individually decorated, with their own bathroom and fireplace. Although there are no TVs or telephones (to ensure a complete getaway from the stresses of modern life), complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout.
Gourmet dining is a large part of the experience at Ollalieberry Inn. Your stay begins with freshly baked cookies on arrival; while artisan coffee or tea is available whenever you want it. Don’t miss the home-cooked afternoon tea or the evening hors d’oeuvres and wine reception. The highlight, of course, is the three-course, chef-prepared, hot breakfast. Specialties range from pumpkin pancakes with pear compote to strawberry roll-ups and scrambled eggs. The inn welcomes all guests aged 12 and over.
