Tacos A Go Go Breakfast Taco
    Tacos a Go Go

This local favorite sits just down the street from Houston's Red Line Train Ensemble/HCC station in a line of colorfully painted storefronts.

Step inside, vintage Mexican wrestler mask paintings and a large, yet surprisingly tasteful, Mudflap girl line the walls, but the real attraction is the dual flat-top grills in Taco A Go Go's open kitchen. At any given time, piles of meat sizzle as the cooks create made-to-order breakfast tacos any time of day. With 15 different ingredients, customers can get creative, mixing and matching standard breakfast taco ingredients like egg and potato with nontraditional toppings like guacamole.

Tip: Order ahead online to shorten your wait time.

    Luna y Sol Mexican Grill

If you're looking for some authentic Mexican food, this place has it in spades. Luna y Sol is located in a small shopping strip near Milam Street and McGowen Street, just a five-minute walk from the McGowen METRORail train stop.

While the street tacos are perhaps the most popular menu item, don't underestimate the breakfast tacos. You can choose either flour or corn tortillas along with your several delicious filling combinations. Be sure to try the huevos con chorizo (eggs with Mexican sausage) or the huevos a la Mexicana with onions, tomatoes and jalapeños. Breakfast is served Monday through Saturday until noon, and all day on Sunday.

District 7 puts a spin on the standard egg + cheese + meat breakfast taco by offering a host of interesting and flavorful combinations. Mix and match three tacos to make a taco plate. For a healthier option, try the black and white kale taco, which features egg white, black beans, kale and apple smoked bacon, all topped with a sprinkling of mozzarella cheese.

In addition to a delicious menu, District 7 also offers a covered, outdoor seating area with fans and heat lamps that can be used year-round. And a private parking lot — a rarity in Midtown — is accessible from both Pierce Street and Brazos Street.

For a quick bite and some outdoor seating, Rico's is a great spot to grab a taco to-go. A small enclosure houses the kitchen and staff, while a handful of picnic tables serve as the only seating area. But if you can't find a seat, don't worry. Benches and a large grassy area are available for picnicking in adjacent Bagby Park

The fare is simple: choice of flour or corn tortilla and standard fillings like eggs, cheese, and bacon or chorizo. But don't mistake basic for bland. Rico's tacos are as tasty as they are satisfying, and at less than $3 a piece, they're great cheap eats.

Tip: You can get Rico's delivered via GrubHub and UberEats

Fuzzy's might be on the only franchise on this list, but don't let that scare you away. Born and bred in Texas, Fuzzy's knows it's Tex-Mex, and its breakfast tacos are just one tasty part of its diverse menu. For something a little different, be sure to try the shrimp, egg and cheese breakfast taco.

The West Gray location sits along the borderlands of Houston's Midtown, Fourth Ward and Montrose neighborhoods, and is a short walk away from both Bagby Park and Gray Street's bustling shopping strip. The location is prime for giving patio dwellers a nice view of the Downtown skyline.

Tip: Nutrition facts and allergen information are available on Fuzzy's website.
