Outlet malls can be excellent sources of discounted name-brand clothing and household items. Manufacturers and retailers offer their discontinued models, overruns, and past season goods at these malls.

With dozens of stores grouped together, they can provide a full day of bargain hunting. There are even services such as Outlet Hop to take you there and back from San Francisco. Whether you are driving to San Francisco and want to make a stop, or you are taking a day trip from the city for shopping, here are your destinations.

Outlet Malls Near San Francisco

The San Francisco Premium Outlets in Livermore (right on the edge of the SF East Bay) is located 40 miles from San Francisco with over 180 brands. It has Prada, Gucci, Versace, Burberry, DKNY and much, much more.

Marina Square in San Leandro is located 22 miles from San Francisco, and south of Oakland, and is a small outlet mall. They have factory and outlet stores for GUESS, Nike, Loft, Nordstrom Rack, Eileen Fisher, Converse, Ann Taylor, and the Banana Republic.

Great Mall (Milpitas): Enjoy indoor outlet shopping in Santa Clara County with a whopping 200 outlet and value stores. Beyond outlets for Cole Haan, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Neiman Marcus Last Call, they also have a movie theater. The outlets are located off of I-880 and I-680.

Napa Premium Outlets (Napa): Located within the Napa Valley Wine Country, 50 miles from San Francisco, this mall has 50 stores. Many of them are upscale to capture the visitors, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger.

Petaluma Village Premium Outlets (Petaluma): This mall in Sonoma County, 40 miles from San Francisco, has 60 outlet stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, Brooks Brothers, Coach, and Nike. They are just off Highway 101. Take a break from wine tasting to enjoy some shopping north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Vacaville Premium Outlets in Vacaville is one of the largest outlet complexes in the SF Bay Area with 120 stores, at the intersection of I-80 and Nut Tree Road, a little more than 60 miles from San Francisco. 

Folsom Premium Outlets (Folsom): Located 106 miles from San Francisco, near Sacramento. It has 80 stores in an outdoor shopping mall. It's a long drive but you may be passing through on your way to San Francisco and want to take advantage of their many offerings.

Gilroy Premium Outlets in Gilroy: Located 80 miles from San Francisco, this mall has 145 stores. They are open every day of the week at 10 am and are open until 9 pm every day but Sunday when they close at 7 pm. This mall is convenient if you are visiting Monterey or Santa Cruz, and is in the hometown of the long-running Gilroy Garlic Festival. You will find the full array of outlet stores at this location, from shoes from Nike and Adidas to clothing for every age group. There are plenty of outdoors stores as well.

American Tin Cannery is located 120 miles from San Francisco, and is a fun stop in Pacific Grove—north of Carmel. It only has about 20 stores, but they include outlets for Pendleton, Van Heusen, and Famous Footwear.
