Bastille Day 2016 Events in Washington DC

Bastille Day is a French national holiday celebrated on July 14th commemorating the storming of Bastille Prison in 1789 and the launch of the French Revolution. The Alliance Française de Washington and French restaurants in the Washington DC area offer special events and menus in celebration of Bastille Day. This is a great opportunity to learn about the culture and cuisine of France.

Bastille Day French Festival - July 9, 2016, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Hillwood Estate Museum & Gardens, 4155 Linnean Avenue NW, Washington DC.

This annual DC festival celebrates France both past and present, with festivities for visitors of all ages, including dance performances, live music, French games, and hands-on art projects. Events take place among Hillwood-founder, Marjorie Post’s first collecting passion for the decorative arts of 18th century France, as well as the magnificent gardens on the estate. The event is sponsored by The Alliance Française de Washington, the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world.

A Taste of Bordeaux - July 15, 2016, 7:30 p.m.- midnight. La Maison Francaise,  4101 Reservoir Rd., NW, Washington, DC. The Embassy of France celebrates the city of Bordeaux, its heritage and culture, its outstanding wines and gastronomy with a special wine tasting event. Local restaurants will participate and music will be performed by the Avalon Jazz Vand and DJ LOD. 

ENO Wine Bar - July 14, 2016, 5-11 p.m. 2810 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington DC.

 Georgetown’s favorite wine bar is celebrating Bastille Day in its bar and festive outdoor patio with French wine, cheese and food.   ENO Wine Bar has created an official Bastille Day wine flight. The flight will feature wines from across the entire country, highlighting a variety of different grapes and tasting notes.


DC Road Runners Bastille Day 4 Miler - July 14, 2016, 7- 9 p.m. Fletcher's Boat House, 4940 Canal Rd NW Washington, DC. Commemorate the storming of the Bastille on a four-mile out-and-back run on the C&O Canal Towpath. After the race stick around and celebrate a great run with your fellow runners, watch the awards announcements and partake in refreshments. 

Bastille Restaurant - July 14-17, 2016. 606 N Fayette St, Alexandria, VA. The restaurant will offer a special menu featuring food from the Bordeaux area and an option of wine pairings. The menu includes three choices of prix fixe options—three course at $39 (+$24 for optional wine pairing); four courses for $49 (plus $30 optional wine pairing) and five courses for $59 (plus $35 optional wine pairing).  All dishes are also available a la carte.  Options range from appetizers of Terrine de Foie Gras and Salade de Melons with country bread croutons to hors d’oeuvres including Escargots au Pistou and Tarte aux Aubergines and entrees from Magret de Canard aux Pêches to Loup de Mer et sa Paella and more.

 For $55 Francophiles and foodies alike will enjoy a special three-course menu featuring French appetizer, entree and dessert favorites like escargot, tuna crudo, boudin blanc, raspberry vacherin and more. Guests will also sip on specialty cocktails, wine and beer while enjoying live French music by The Blue Room Jazz Band. Central will be decked out in red, white and bleu balloons, French flags and staff in black berets to honor the Storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789.

Cafe du Parc - July 14, 2016, 5-8 p.m. 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC. Celebrate Bastille Day at Café du Parc with an evening of French fare, a cash bar, and live music. Enjoy specials such as made-to-order crepes ($10) as well as three glasses of wine and a cheese & charcuterie board for $30.

Bastille Day Celebration at Sofitel DC - July 14, 2016, 6-11 p.m. Sofitel Washington DC,  806 15th St NW, Washington, DC.

 Celebrate the National Day of France in true French style, the festive evening under the open skies will feature live gypsy jazz tunes reminiscent of 1930s French cafes and dancing.  A selection of French food specialities, along with themed cocktails will be available for purchase. Live music will be performed by French inspired gypsy jazz band Djangolaya. Event is 21+; FREE to attend.  RSVP requested.
