My Favorite Car - 1961 Volkswagen Micro Bus

1961 VOLKSWAGEN MICRO BUS DOUBLE DOOR CAMPER. Photo by Zeke Quezada

If I had one pick of all the cars at the Auto Collection at the LINQ Las Vegas this is the car I would be driving. Even though I understand that all cars in the collection are for sale I am quite sure I'll never be driving this one.

However, I can dream a little and it is a tiny fantasy that has me driving to a beach in Malibu in this beautiful 1961 Volkswagen Micro Bus and enjoying a beach day. At $85,000 I'm pretty sure it will not happen. Sure it is for sale but it is out of my price range.

The Official Description from the Auto Collection at LINQ Las Vegas
1961 Volkswagen Micro Bus Double Door Camper - A ground-up restored camper with rare factory cargo doors on both sides. Has new paint, glass, chrome, rubber, upholstery, woodwork, brakes and 12-volt system. Also features a rebuilt motor and transmission. This outstanding 1961 VW Micro Bus came from the German factory with the very rare option of double cargo doors on both sides. The Oregon-based Caravelle Camper company,...MORE which was one of the first camper conversion companies in the U.S, installed the original camper equipment. After 35 years of storage, the camper has undergone a complete professional ground-up restoration to like new condition. On the exterior there's new two tone white and blue paint with front Safari windows, new white wall tires and all new glass, chrome and rubber throughout. Included is a new canvas awning and roof luggage rack. The undercarriage and suspension have been fully detailed. The interior has new dark blue upholstery and new flooring, tables and curtains. The new cabinetry, paneling and headliner are all done in beautiful maple wood. An icebox, water storage tank and pump, fold-out bed and vintage gas heater round out the camper's interior. The brake and 12-volt systems are new. Both the dual port 1600cc motor and transmission are rebuilt.

As a kid my dad promised he would get me one of these jeeps. When he eventually decided on getting me one I realized his master plan included an old Postal Service jeep. I thought long and hard about it and then realized I could probably not drive to high school dressed as the mailman. I eventually bought my own Jeep although it was the updated version.

1941 Dodge Military Power Wagon At The Auto Collection at Linq Las Vegas

1941 Dodge Military Power Wagon. Photo By Zeke Quezada

I would look fabulous pulling up to the Valley at any hotel on the Las Vegas strip in this Military Power Wagon. This to me is what a muscle car should be.

The Official Description from the Auto Collection at LINQ Las Vegas
1941 Dodge Military Power Wagon - In 1941 Dodge introduced the WC Series half-ton trucks. This series featured military front sheet metal. A total of almost 78,000 WC half-tons were built in several body styles. These trucks were a decided improvement over the VC Series but nevertheless the Army still felt they were lacking. Dodge engineers returned to the drawing boards and developed the 1942 3/4-ton WC Series trucks. These trucks had a lower silhouette, were wider, more powerful, heavier and offered in a broader range of body types. After intensive testing the Army approved them for mass production. A total of 225,196 trucks of all body types were produced for WWII. In addition, another 43,278 6x6 1 1/2-ton models were built beginning in 1943. The 1 1/2-ton WC-62...MORE and WC-63 6x6s were basically the 3/4-ton trucks with a third driven axle, a longer cargo body and a two-speed transfer case (the 3/4-ton models had a one-speed transfer case).

1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster At The Auto Collection

1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster. Photo by Zeke Quezada

I'm a huge fan of yellow. I'm not really a fan of fast cars but the lines on this car make me want to drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in record time. The car is not really practical as I'm sure my golf clubs would not fit anywhere and a car seat is entirely out of the question. However, I would probably get a haircut, wear nice clothing and put on some real shoes if I drove this car.

The Official Description from the Auto Collection
1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster - Chassis Number: ZA9RU31B2XLA12343 - Two owner car in pristine condition throughout with only 7,116 kilometers since new, factory wheels with matching yellow calipers, Borla exhaust and recent complete service.

1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible At The Auto Collection

1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible. Photo by Zeke Quezada

If you bought this car you know you would need some really nice sunglasses. You'll also walk around with a great tan. All the time. Only a select group of people would think you are cool but I'm pretty sure you would not care.

The Official Description from the Auto Collection
1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible - Chassis Number: 3307125011 - In 1960, this Plymouth Fury convertible was completed at the St. Louis factory and shipped to the Perdue Plymouth dealership in Sunnyvale, California. Little is known about the car’s early history. In 1995 it was discovered not far from its original home, in very complete, solid condition, but needing a full restoration. While decoding the build sheet, it was discovered that this Fury was an extremely rare car that had been ordered with the “SonoRamic Commando” engine with cross-ram induction – only about 25 cars were ever fitted with this engine. Mopar expert Bob Hayden undertook an exacting restoration that was completed in 2006. It is...MORE currently finished in the original combination of Plum Red Metallic and Oyster White paint with a complementing red-and-white interior, and is fitted with chrome wire wheels. All the work was done with great attention to detail throughout, giving the bodywork, interior and trim a stunning appearance. The engine was taken to Chrysler specialist George Riehl, who discovered that at some time the engine had been replaced with a Chrysler unit, so a correct Plymouth 383 block was sourced to create the most authentic example possible. This beautiful Fury is complete with a period California black plate, Chrysler Historical Society build sheet and extensive restoration paperwork. In recent years it has won a number of awards at smaller shows, a testament to its overall quality and presentation. Since completion it has been lovingly maintained and is said to run without fault. For the collector who wants a definitive example of the large American convertibles of that era with an innovative, powerful engine, it is hard to imagine a better choice than this 1960 Fury. The new owner will have a unique and highly sought-after automobile, ready to impress the most discerning audience wherever it is shown.

1957 Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop At The Auto Collection

1957 Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop. Photo by Zeke Quezada

A ragtop was my first car. I blew out the engine and then moved to a 69 Beetle and then to a 67 fastback. These cars in their simplicity are what first cars are all about.

The Official Description from the Auto Collection Las Vegas
1957 Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop - ID# 1444857 - This mint restored example was originally sold new in Livermore, California. The original owner had the car until 1986, and then sold it to Don Mettes of San Ramon, California. The car was then sold to Ralph Engelstad of the Imperial Palace in 1996. In 1998, the car was purchased by the Blackhawk Collection in Danville, California. The car then went to Bill Jacobs of Joliet, Illinois in 1998.
