If you’re looking for more than a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom, check out these uber-cool Austin accommodations.

Hotel San Jose

Formerly a humble roadside motel, Hotel San Jose is a popular choice among visiting film crews. Located in the middle of the South Congress (SoCo) entertainment district, home of the famous Continental Club, the hotel features a tranquil courtyard with vine-covered walls, a small pool, funky bamboo and widely spaced tables.

Wine and cheese are served on the quiet patio in the evenings. Each smallish room has its own creative decor and comes with kimono bathrobes and high-quality bath products. The window-unit air conditioners can be a little noisy, but hey, it’s all part of the charm. 1316 South Congress Avenue; (512) 852-2360. Book Hotel San Jose on TripAdvisor.

Kimber Modern

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in south Austin, Kimber Modern has only six rooms. The grounds are shaded by sprawling oak trees that seem to fit right in with the structure’s sleek and colorful design. The 500-square-foot white suite may be the best example of the hotel’s bright yet calming vibe. Stylish modern furniture is surrounded by crisp white-and-teal walls. Guests can enjoy a mini-bar, a private patio and a tub with room for two. You can also meet fellow guests at a nightly happy hour on the tree-covered patio. 110 The Circle; (512) 912-1046.

Hotel St. Cecilia

Owned by entrepreneur Liz Lambert, who is also the proprietor of Hotel San Jose, Hotel St. Cecilia takes the Zen vibe of the San Jose and adds a lot more space. Hotel St. Cecilia’s 14 rooms are located in a beautiful old house, three studios and six bungalows on a lushly landscaped and secluded site near SoCo.

The poolside bungalows provide maximum privacy while rooms in the house offer more opportunities for meeting new people. The arbor includes a 50-foot pool, lounge chairs and a small outdoor dining area, where breakfast and light fare are served. For fans of vinyl records, all rooms and suites are equipped with Rega turntables. In the lobby, the hotel has a lending library chock full of vintage records. 112 Academy Drive; (512) 852-2400. Book Hotel St. Cecilia on TripAdvisor.
