Hotel San Jose
Formerly a humble roadside motel, Hotel San Jose is a popular choice among visiting film crews. Located in the middle of the South Congress (SoCo) entertainment district, home of the famous Continental Club, the hotel features a tranquil courtyard with vine-covered walls, a small pool, funky bamboo and widely spaced tables. Wine and cheese are served on the quiet patio in the evenings. Each smallish room has its own creative decor and comes with kimono bathrobes and high-quality bath products. The window-unit air conditioners can be a little noisy, but hey, it’s all part of the charm.

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in south Austin, Kimber Modern has only six rooms. The grounds are shaded by sprawling oak trees that seem to fit right in with the structure’s sleek and colorful design. The 500-square-foot white suite may be the best example of the hotel’s bright yet calming vibe. Stylish modern furniture is surrounded by crisp white-and-teal walls. Guests can enjoy a mini-bar, a private patio and a tub with room for two. You can also meet fellow guests at a nightly happy hour on the tree-covered patio.
