Here are the retail sales tax rates for various cities in Maricopa County, provided to you in table format. As the Phoenix metro area continues to grow and expand, cities in other counties are now increasingly being considered part of the Phoenix metro area. For an explanation of what the components of our sales taxes are, and which cities tax groceries, visit the main Phoenix area sales tax page.
Keep in mind that some cities have lower tax rates for large ticket items. Those are items that might cost $2,000 or more. If you are considering buying large appliances, furniture, a diamond ring or a vehicle, that might make quite a difference! Check your city to determine if the retail sales tax rate is different for higher dollar amounts. Also, a few cities charge a different rate for sales tax on restaurant food sales, although most charge the same rate as the retail rate. Use a search term like "sales tax rates in Tempe AZ" and substitute your city's name to find detailed tax information and the phone number to call with questions.
