Antigua is famed for having one beach for every day of the year -- 365 -- and if there aren't quite that many all-inclusive resorts on the island, there certainly is large enough selection to choose from. Most of Antigua's all-inclusives are of the small, luxury variety, but there also are a few budget properties, and some welcome families as well as couples.

Land-dictated placement" is how they decided where to put everything at three-year-old Hermitage Bay all-inclusive resort in Antigua. Accommodations and public spaces were built into a hillside and beach area, spaces carved by hand machete, says GM Andy Thesen. "We'd get up here, stop, look around and say, 'Yeah, this is it,' and where it looked and felt right, we built," he says. The result is a stunning property on Antigua's west coast overlooking the Caribbean Sea, comprised of 25 freestanding cottage suites and flanked by more than 140 acres of undeveloped land.

Like Galley Bay, the St. James Club is part of the Elite Island Resorts all-inclusive chain; however, it does offer room-only rates as well as the all-inclusive package. Rooms at this 100-acre estate are located in the main Club building or the adjacent Village villas; beachfront rooms were recently added at Coco's Beach. Like the rooms and other accommodations, the resort's restaurants are located either beachfront, poolside, or cliffside overlooking Moroma Bay. Some meals and dining at the upscale Piccolo Mondo restaurant include a surcharge for all-inclusive guests. The resort has two beaches, four swimming pools, six tennis courts (four lighted), and complimentary non-motorized water sports.
