• Andrea E. McHugh, originally from the D.C. metropolitan area, is a Newport, Rhode Island-based travel, food, and lifestyle writer and communications professional with nearly two decades of experience.

She has also served as an editor and food editor at lifestyle magazines and digital platforms. 

With extensive and diverse experience in the travel industry, Andrea directed communications and media relations for the Newport tourism bureau, working with writers, correspondents, producers, and influencers from around the world for nearly a decade. In this role, she’s appeared on Good Morning America, Hotel Impossible, and other programs. Andrea has been interviewed by National Geographic, U.S. News and World Report, and Market Watch. She has also been a guest on several New England morning shows and has written destination travel guides. 

Andrea founded Andrea McHugh Media in 2021 to blend her experience in journalism, media relations/PR, and digital content creation. As a tenured communications leader, digital marketer, copywriter, and content strategist, she elevated the visibility of travel, hospitality, and lifestyle businesses. She recently appeared on United Plates of America on Direct TV and has been featured in The Weekender by TripAdvisor, Yahoo! Sports, and Conde Nast Traveler. 

She has served as a board member of the Public Relations Society of America Southern New England chapter and has been a featured speaker, panelist, and moderator at media and travel-related conferences, seminars, and workshops. She has also been a guest speaker at Salve Regina University, Johnson & Wales University, and the University of Rhode Island.

Education

Andrea studied English and writing at Loyola University Maryland. While there, she was a features writer at the university’s nearly century-old student newspaper, The Greyhound. However, this wasn’t the first publication to which she contributed. While regularly writing features for her high school newspaper, Andrea picked up a bi-weekly column as a high school correspondent for The Northern Virginia Sun. 

While working at Time Life, Inc., Andrea pursued values-based interdisciplinary education by taking courses at Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies. Other professional development includes certificates in both digital and crisis communications  

She has received a “40 Under Forty” award from Providence Business News.
