  • Ali Wunderman is originally from San Francisco, and after spending several years in Montana, has returned to the Bay Area, where she works as an award-winning travel, wildlife, and relationships journalist, guidebook author, and novelist.
  • Ali has written about destination travel, wildlife tourism, and the polyamorous lifestyle for the Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Forbes, Time Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, and Travel +Leisure, among many others.
  • Ali is the Frommer's Guidebook author for Belize and contributed to Fodor's guidebook to Iceland. She wrote her first novel in 2020.

Ali has been a professional travel writer for six years but started crafting adventure stories before turning 10. She focuses mainly on wildlife tourism and the intersection of travel and sex. Throughout her career, she has seen the rise of travelers seeking more ethical interactions with wildlife when visiting destinations, as well as a growing interest and acceptance of alternative lifestyles.

Ali has contributed to more than 70 newspapers, magazines, and websites throughout her career, including The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Forbes, Glamour, Condé Nast Traveler, Time Magazine, Afar, Backpacker, Seattle Times, Travel + Leisure, Hemispheres, and many others. In that time, she's developed expertise in traveling to Belize and Iceland.

Her travels have taken her to six continents and over 50 countries. She's met the last two Northern white rhinos in existence in Kenya, crossed the Australian outback by luxury train, trekked with gorillas in Rwanda, and spent a week on a swinger's cruise in France. Ali has camped in the Belizean jungle fighting macaw poachers, dived with wild dolphins in Tahiti, taken a psychedelic journey in Brazil, and spent a week nude on the beach in Jamaica.

She lets curiosity guide the way every time, and there's nothing she won't try.

Ali graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a Bachelor's degree in linguistics, and she also studied animal science for four years. She built her own work abroad program at a veterinary office in Denmark and received hands-on research experience with wildlife, including killer whales and the Greater Sage-Grouse. Ali also earned a certificate in bovine artificial insemination.

Awards and Publications: In 2021, Ali was honored to receive a Lowell Thomas award for service-oriented travel journalism and a North American Travel Journalists Association award for cruise coverage.
