Alex is a freelance journalist specializing in travel, the outdoors, and arts/culture. She was a competitive athlete growing up, and now as an adult, she stays fit with road running, trail running, weight lifting, hiking, walking, and water activities. Alex's career as a travel writer has allowed her to participate in outdoor excursions all over the world from surfing in Mexico to hang gliding in Chattanooga, canyoning in Bali, diving in Bonaire, kayaking in the Caribbean, skiing in Montana, and hiking in Thailand. When it comes to testing outdoor apparel and gear, she's drawn to items that are both functional and stylish -- because you shouldn't have to sacrifice style in the outdoors.

Alex has been a freelance writer since 2015. Her work has appeared in outlets like Outside, Outside Business Journal, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, among many others. In 2021, Alex became a Bessie Award Winner for the "Most Impactful Piece of Writing" for her article in Conde Nast Traveler, "Questions Every Anti-Racist Traveler Should Ask on a Trip."

Alex earned a BA in history from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and went on to the University of Central Oklahoma where she achieved her MFA in Creative Writing.
