March usually blows in with some light winds. It also sees us shaking our winter clothes and getting out more. Here are some highlights of what's happening around town in Albuquerque for the month of March. These are events that occur year after year. Be sure to check the website to confirm information. The calendar activities are family friendly unless otherwise indicated. I'll mention it if the event is free.

Income Tax Assistance
Get tax assistance at some of the city senior centers. Make an appointment for help from a volunteer tax assistant. Free service, paperwork required. Available at Barelas Senior Center or Bear Canyon Senior Center.

The Little Mermaid
The Ballet Repertory Theater's spring performance is the classic story about a mermaid who discovered a world above the ocean. See it performed at the KiMo downtown.

Real Women Have Curves
The play about five immigrant women highlights gender politics and the Latina experience. See it at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
For 2016: March 3 - 20

West Side Story
The modern Romeo and Juliet tale takes to the streets of New York. See the musical at the Albuquerque Little Theatre.

Women and Creativity Month
There are workshops, shows, talks and so much more happening all month long in honor of women and the creative process.

Events take place at several places, to include the Harwood Art Center.

First Friday Fractals and Fractals Rock
Art and science meet under the planetarium dome for these live presentations at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.

First Friday ARTScrawl
With over 20 different galleries throughout the city participating, you can choose which ones to visit to find out what's happening with guilds, individual artists and ongoing shows.

This is a free event.

Fiery Foods and BBQ Show
There's something fun and fiesty about grazing the aisles at this show, seeing how much heat your tongue can take. The Fiery Foods & BBQ show is dedicated to the many kinds of chile peppers and the products they make. Find out how to cook them and discover the ones that end up in sauce bottles and salsas. There are cooking demonstrations, cookbooks, cooking products and lots of chile products.

An Evening with Bobby Shew
Bobby Shew will perform with the New Mexico Philharmonic at Popejoy Hall.

T-Rex Planet
Dinosaurs are coming to New Mexico Expo. There will be a Dino theater, fossil dig, games, and dino bounce castles.

First Sundays at Natural History Museum
The first Sunday of each month, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is free to New Mexico residents. Take a guided tour of the museum's exhibits at 1:30. From 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., see displays and demos by some of Albuquerque's future scientists. The family friendly event is free.

Once
Once tells the story of a Dublin street musician who is about to give up on his dream when he meets someone who changes everything.

See it at Popejoy.

Banff Mountain Film Festival
The festival features a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental and adventure films from the Banff Festival. See it on tour at the KiMo Theatre.

Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival
The Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival has 200 craftsmen and artists showing their work in mediums such as jewelry, pottery, woodworking, clothing and many kinds of handicrafts. There will also be food, kids' activities, artist demonstrations, entertainment and more. See the website for a $1 off coupon. At the New Mexico Expo.

ShamRock Fest
The ShamRock Fest at the Balloon Museum features food, music, arts and crafts, sports activities, a silent auction, Kids Zone and more.

The Austin Piazzolla Quintet
The Quintet specializes in the music of Piazzolla as well as original tango creations. Hear them at the Outpost Performance Space.

Indie Q
Indie Q is back, with locally made films being screened at the KiMo. This is a free event. Doors open at 6:30 and movies begin at 7 p.m.

Daffodil Days
Find daffodils for sale around town and buy a few to support the programs at Presbyterian Home Healthcare. Proceeds go to families in need. Daffodils can be found at 26 sales site locations in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.

St. Patrick’s Day
Find out where to go on and around the day that celebrates good luck, a bit of blarnery and lots of green cheer. There are St. Patrick's events happening almost all month long.

One Night of Queen
Relive your Queen favorites with Gary Mullen and the Works. Classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody and more will be at Popejoy Hall.

A film festival, conference and retreat, all in one. The weekend takes place at the KiMo Theatre.

You'll find gems and minerals galore all weekend, along with experts and equipment at the New Mexico Expo.

Olga Rocks Rachmaninoff
Russian pianist Olga Kern ill be joined by the New Mexico Philharmonic at Popejoy Hall at 6 p.m.

Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest
If you love coffee and/or chocolate, you won't want to miss the Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest. Taste free samples, meet vendors, and purchase some of the best local chocolate and coffee around. You'll find it at Expo New Mexico.

Caladh Nua
The ensemble comes from Ireland's southern counties, and performs traditional music with a modern flair. The show is at Popejoy Hall at 3 p.m.

Lunasa With Tim O'Brien
The Irish acoustic group explores the roots of American and Irish music. Hear them at the KiMo.

The Pink Floyd Experience
The popular and influential rock band brought amazing shows to the stage. This show will recreate the Pink Floyd experience for a mind blowing experience. See it at the Legends Theater at Route 66 Casino.

Cirque de la Symphonie
The New Mexico Philharmonic orchestra will play with aCirque performance at Popejoy Hall.
For 2016: March 26

21st Annual César Chávez March and Celebration
The free public event celebrates César Chávez's life. The march begins at the National Hispanic Cultural Center and ends there with guest speakers, community awards, dance presentations and live music. From noon to 3 p.m.

ABQ Grand Slam Poetry Championship
The top performance poets in Albuquerque will compete at the Outpost, with the top performer competing at the National Slam in August.
