June is such an exciting month in Albuquerque! Here are some of the events going on as we dip our toes into summer.


Summertime in Old Town Music Series

  • Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in Old Town feature live entertainment at the Gazebo.

June Highlight Events

San Felipe de Neri Fiesta
Albuquerque's oldest parish fiesta takes place each year in Old Town. There will be entertainment, dancers, music and more. The food includes San Felipe's famous green chile cheeseburgers and an assortment of fiesta trucks and booths. A carnival, bingo, rides, jumps and arts and crafts make the event a great family affair.

1940 Hitchcock Hits: Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Mr. and Mrs. Smith are in love and have been married for three years when they are told their marriage never really took place. When they decide not to remarry, Mr. Smith tries to win back his supposed wife. See it at the KiMo on June 3 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

First Friday ARTScrawl
With over 20 different galleries throughout the city participating, you can choose which ones to visit to find out what’s happening with guilds, individual artists and ongoing shows. Locations vary; visit the website for a printable map.

First Friday Fractals
Every first Friday of the month, the Fractal Foundation presents a show that weaves art with science in an eye-catching and mind expanding venue. See it at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. Fractals Rock has less talk and more rock.

Music Under the Stars at the Albuquerque Museum
The New Mexico Jazz Workshop's summer Under the Stars music series begins at the Albuquerque Museum on June 3 with Salsa by Ivon Ulibarri and Cafe Mocha. On June 4, hear the blues of Mystic Vic and the Levi Platero Band. Doors open at 6:30 and music begins at 7 p.m.

Route 66 Show
In honor of Route 66's 90th birthday, the Albuquerque Museum will feature exhibits on the road's history and culture. This is a great show; be sure to see it. The exhibit runs through October 2.

Treasure Island
Encore Theatre presents the tale of pirates, treasure and adventure at Rodey Theatre through June 5. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7 p.m.

Ray Wylie Hubbard
A special kickoff event for the Albuquerque Folk Festival takes place at Balloon Fiesta Park, with Hubbard and his roots n' roll. The concert takes place on the festival grounds.

Albuquerque Folk Festival
The annual folk festival brings together musicians, dance, workshops, talent shows, and activities for the kids, such as the instrument playing area. This is a participatory festival, so bring dancing shoes! The festival takes place at the Balloon Museum. The Folk Festival takes place Saturday, June 4.

National Free Fishing Day
Fish without a license for one day only at Tingley Beach. Fish from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4.

Kirtland Air Show
Kirtland Air Force Base will have its first air show in five years, on June 4 and 5. Parking takes place at off base locations and shuttles can be taken from New Mexico Expo starting at 9:30 each day. Flying acts begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. No entry will be allowed after 3 p.m. See stunts and spectacular flying by the US Air Force Thunderbirds at this free event.

Spring Festival and Children's Fair
Costumed villagers at Los Golondrinas historic village will be shearing sheep, baking bread and other activities. There will be games for kids, hands on activities and lots of animals.

Albuquerque Beer Week
The 2016 Albuquerque Beer Week runs from May 26 through June 5. Enjoy beer tastings, a special golf tournament, beer tappings and other events around town. Discover some of the city's breweries and pubs.

The Albuquerque Public Libraries have a popular summer reading program.

Art in the Park
Art in the Park takes place at the soccer field adjacent to the Grower's Market in Corrales. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

World Oceans Week
Since 1992, World Oceans Day has celebrated our oceans and the connections we have with them. Visit the Aquarium's exhibits and see special programs at this week long event, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The event is included with admission.

Stories in the Night Sky and Albuquerque Concert Band
There will be live performances and a storytime at the Balloon Museum. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Albuquerque Concert Band will perform music. Food trucks will be nearby for hungry souls. The event is free.
For 2016: June 8

The play is set in Baltimore in 1962 and follows plus-sized teen Tracy Turnblad as she follows her dream to dance on the popular Corny Collins show. See it at the Albuquerque Little Theatre weekends May 27 through June 19.

The Nance
The play tells the story of Chauncey, who plays Nance on stage and who is gay in real life. The play takes place during the Burlesque era in New York, when Mayor LaGuardia was closing down burlesque theaters. See the Nance at the Vortex weekends through July 3.

Albuquerque Pride
The annual Gay Pride festival brings a parade, dance and special events for days of alternative fun. The parade starts at 10 a.m. June 11, at Central and Girard, heading east to Expo New Mexico. A candlelight vigil takes place June 9 at 7 p.m. at Morningside Park. Pridefest takes place at Expo New Mexico.

The Seven
What is a creative venture without theater? Albuquerque's theater scene continues to prosper, and every year, the Fusion Theater Company brings you The Seven, which features seven plays centered around a theme. This year's theme is "Strange Bedfellows."

Shakespeare on the Plaza
The Vortex Theater runs a Shakespeare festival each summer on the Civic Plaza downtown. Plays for the 2016 Shakespeare on the Plaza will be The Tempest and Much Ado About Nothing. The shows for 2016 are all FREE.

MUDD Volleyball Tournament
The fundraiser for Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation will be the biggest yet. Call 505-243-6626 to sign up. Teams play other teams in a round robin of mud volleyball, with proceeds benefitting Carrie Tingley Foundation.

Hug a Horse Day
The New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin 'N Circles will host a community event to benefit rescued horses housed at the ranch. There will be a tack swap, pony rides, music, a silent auction, horsemanship demos and more. The day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Festival Flamenco Internacional
Performances, workshops and film screenings bring the lively art of flamenco to town. Ticket packages are available at reduced rates.

The June Music Festival
The annual music festival brings world renowned musicians to the Simms Performing Arts Center. This year's festival features the Telegraph Quartet on June 12 at 4 p.m. and the Henschel Quartet on June 19 at 4 p.m.

Pride Concerts
The Gay Men's Chorus will perform music at the Hiland Theatre to celebrate Gay Pride.

Herb and Lavender Fair
Los Golondrinas will have a fair with herb and lavender products, arts and crafts, marimba music and tours of the gardens. Learn how to propagate lavender, meet a curandera, and more. The fair takes place Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to all our wonderful dads. There are a number of events in store just for Dads, all week long.

See the work of over 200 artists producing pieces in sculpture, wood, oils and more. Purchase art and chat with the artists, at this weekend long arts extravaganza held at New Mexico Expo.
