Aeris Memory Foam Travel Pillow

If you’re catching a flight or traveling a long way by car, what you really need in a travel pillow is something that’ll stay put and catch your head as you doze off. If that’s all you’re counting on, then you have many happy miles ahead with the Aeris Memory Foam Travel Pillow. I put this travel pillow through its paces to see if it’s really worth it despite its basic appearance. Ahead, I'll break down the most important features, like comfort level, price, durability, and design.

Design: Simple and straightforward

This pillow is as simple as it gets. It has a ring design that wraps around your neck and tightens via an adjustable cord that keeps the pillow arms together. It think it would be even more comfortable if the arms wrapped around just a little bit longer toward the chin. Also, it feels as though there’s no extra support at any spot on the neck or any other ergonomic design details.

On the plus side, I thought that the adjustable drawstring makes it easy to take the pillow on and off, while keeping it snug in place during use. Also, the slide feels like it’s made from quality plastic, so you don’t need to worry about it breaking with one drop on the ground.

The straightforward design of this pillow makes it clear how to use it. Unlike some other pillows that require instructions and explanations, you’ll know just what to do from the get-go.

Portability: Light but not flat

The pillow gets slightly smaller once it's snug in its included pouch (which features a compression band), but it won’t compress all the way flat. You can also attach the pouch to your bag with the Velcro strap to carry it hands-free.

Some inflatable travel pillows save you tons of space when you’re not using them, but this one is pretty much the same size whether you’re using it or not. Compared to other memory foam pillows (which can be dense), it’s relatively light, so you won’t notice that it’s strapped to your carry-on until you need it.

The included accessories—an eye mask and earplugs—need to be stored separately, since there’s not much extra space inside the bag.

Comfort: Soft and comfortable, but lacks chin support

The Aeris pillow is comfortable enough for quick naps on a plane, but don’t depend on it for extra support and super snooze sessions. Your chin still has the freedom to drop down toward your chest, which leaves opportunity for neck strain. I think that it’s better suited for people who tilt their heads to the side or back as they sleep, since there’s little support in the chin area.

It’s better suited for people who tilt their heads to the side or back as they sleep, since there is little support in the chin area.

While it may not be the best choice for forward-sleeping travelers, it is a fantastic basic travel pillow that focuses on casual comfort and neck support. The memory foam feel is dense enough to support you and soft enough to snuggle against.

Durability: Memory foam maintains its shape

Even after squeezing this pillow into its travel case and using it at 30,000 feet for some airplane shut-eye, I found that the memory foam held its shape well. Plus, I loved the ability to pack it down a bit smaller in the travel pouch to keep it clean, well shaped, and soft for the foreseeable future. And if your pillow does get dirty or take a spill, its plush cover is machine-washable, which adds to its convenience.

Price: Value-added bundle

Yes, there are cheaper pillows out there, but this is a great option if you’re looking for an affordable memory foam travel pillow. Based on observed durability and washability, you can expect to be using this pillow as you log some serious travel miles.

Also, as an added value, the pillow comes with an eye mask and earplugs. This also puts it in the gift-worthy category—any frequent flier or budding adventurer will appreciate this gift set.

Competition: Basic but beats out competitors

Although there are many memory foam travel pillows on the market, there are a few things that help the Aeris Memory Foam Travel Neck Pillow stand out. For one, the subtle pattern of the cover and soft, good-quality fabric will appeal to anyone.

The durable memory foam core also takes this travel pillow far and above the beaded options that slip and slide around your neck, which you’ll often find at airport convenience shops. While there are cheaper options out there, the attention to detail and included extras (like the sleep mask and earplugs) make this one worth the slightly-more-expensive price tag.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more ergonomic, this may not be the pillow for you. Look for the Trtl neck pillow for a more complicated design that keeps your head up in a more sturdy position.
